Pride Photo Exhibition on display at Van Grunsven Square
On Saturday, April 19, the municipality of Heerlen, together with Queer Parkstad, will open the Pride Photo Exhibition on the Burgemeester van Grunsvenplein in Heerlen. The queer photography exhibition is free to visit through May 9 and concludes the national tour with Heerlen, after Amsterdam and Groningen, among others.
Founded in 2010, Pride Photo organizes an annual outdoor exhibition highlighting the diversity and inspiring stories of the LGBTQIA+ community.
A powerful and multifaceted picture of the queer community
The exhibition is curated by author, activist and curator Alejandra Ortiz. He portrays stories that show the resilience and diversity of the queer community. The exhibition showcases unique people and stories from around the world. This year, Pride Photo received more than 9,000 entries worldwide. Two were awarded: "Invisible" by Alexis in the Single Image category and the series "I Remember Everything" by Australian photographer Julie Sundberg in the Series category.
Alderman Inclusion Arlette Vrusch:
"In Heerlen, we embrace diversity and inclusiveness. That the Pride Photo exhibition concludes its nationwide tour right here underscores that we are a city where everyone can be themselves. The art and photos tell unique stories that everyone should see and hear. I cordially invite you to visit this impressive exhibition."
Festive opening
Alderman Arlette Vrusch will open the exhibition at 11:00 a.m. on the Burgemeester van Grunsvenplein together with the Queer Parkstad foundation. This will be followed by a celebratory toast and performances by Gigi Love and Didier.
The rest of the afternoon visitors to the Pride Photo Exhibition can continue to enjoy a program of activities organized by the Queer Parkstad foundation at Centr@l ParQ on Oranje Nassaustraat, during the Heerlen Annual Fair.
Everyone is welcome. From passersby and visitors to Centr@l ParQ to local residents and interested parties. Stop by and celebrate the diversity and resilience of the queer community!
