Heerlen traffic safety plan adopted

Improving livability in neighborhoods in the city is top priority this college term. As part of this, the College of Mayor and Aldermen has adopted the Road Safety Plan. This year alone, 2.5 million euros will be invested in it. An important part is making a number of streets safer, including Montfortstraat, Heulsstraat, Huskensweg, Bokstraat and Lucasstraat.

School zones

In addressing road safety, the commitment to achieving safe school environments plays an important role. By setting up school zones with distinctive and recognizable road design, other road users see at a glance that they are near a school. In addition, extra attention is paid to education programs at elementary schools. This year, eight schools are participating. Double the number compared to last year.

Top priority

Alderman Marco Peters of Mobility: "Our commitment is to make a difference and improve the quality of life precisely in the places that are so dear to our residents, their own neighborhoods. An important element is traffic safety. This has top priority as far as we are concerned. That is why we are investing again this year in making a number of high-risk streets safe and are pulling out all the stops to tackle as many school environments as possible. This is how we work towards concrete results".
