Politically Active Course
Would you like to learn more about local politics and how you can actively contribute? The Heerlen municipal council offers a unique opportunity to residents with an interest in politics! From the beginning of 2025, the Heerlen municipal council will start the Politically Active course, specially organized to give involved residents of Heerlen more insight into the functioning of local politics and to inspire them to commit themselves to the city.
The Politically Active course consists of five meetings on Thursday evenings. The course takes place in the evening between 19:30 and 22:00 in the council chamber of Heerlen. Each meeting is about a theme within politics. Participants receive an explanation about municipal decision-making, learn how political influence works and can acquire practical skills, such as debating and reading a budget. The program also includes an introduction to the council members and a review of the February council meeting. The aim of the course is to inform residents about council work and to inspire them to possibly become active themselves.
