Pulse-Twin: Smart Technology Helps Create Livable Neighborhoods
How can we keep neighborhoods and communities livable and safe, even when the police and community organizations are under significant pressure? Through the Pulse-Twin pilot project, Heerlen is working with partners to explore how smart technology can help with this and accelerate improvements. The European Urban Initiative (EUI) has awarded Heerlen a grant to carry out this project over a period of 3.5 years. The project began in November 2025.
Pulse-Twin is investigating how smart technology—in the form of AI and a Social Digital Twin—can help us. These intelligent systems complete tasks faster than humans. As a result, professionals such as police officers, youth workers, community coordinators, and community development workers have more time to focus on the “ Health ” for livable and safe neighborhoods.
