147 new homes in Slakhorst
The municipality of Heerlen has granted a permit for the construction of 147 new homes in the Slakhorst neighborhood, Hoensbroek. This project, developed by housing corporation Woonpunt, will provide a mix of family- and life-capable homes and greatly improve the neighborhood. In addition to greening the streetscape, heritage elements in the style of architect Jan Stuyt are reflected in the design. All homes will have energy label A+++ and modern installations, fully in line with the future-oriented policy of the municipality.
By granting this permit, the municipality is taking another step in working with Woonpunt to make this dated mining colony ready for the future. The conversation about Slakhorst has been going on for several years. During this period, Woonpunt and the municipality have worked together to create a plan for both the housing and the public space. We make a connection between the historical value and the new future values. The neighborhood will become green and climate proof. We are repairing the entrance gates and there will be underground and above-ground water storage to prevent flooding.
Getting Started
Alderman Marco Peters : “After a long wait, we can now get started! The renovated Slakhorst will be a gem. High-quality and energy-efficient social housing that meets today's requirements, but also a neighborhood where the emphasis is on meeting and greening. Many elements that are characteristic of Slakhorst will return, such as the arch as an entrance to the neighborhood and the presence of water pumps.”
New future
Wim Hazeu, director of Woonpunt, concurs: "We are going to give Slakhorst a new future. We are working closely with the municipality and look forward to rewarding the residents' long wait."
Joint principal
The neighborhood was designed by Architecten aan de Maas and Satijn Plus. For the design of the public space, the municipality and Woonpunt are joint clients. The design challenge was to combine all the modern requirements with the style of the original architect Jan Stuyt.
