Since the beginning of this month, the bicycle shed on Akerstraat has been closed from 7 p.m., while it used to be from 11 p.m. We are calling on associations in the city to help keep it open until 11 p.m.
The municipality of Heerlen is going into the neighbourhoods to ask residents where they see room for housing. For example, is there a place in the neighbourhood, close to amenities, where housing is needed? We are opening an email address for ideas. At woningbouw@heerlen.nl people can immediately submit suggestions for suitable development locations in their neighbourhood.
This morning the mayor signed Roel Wever and project leader CIV Safety of the VISTA College in the Town Hall in Heerlen a covenant as the starting signal for Crimelabs. Crimelabs is a project in which students are actively involved in the development of policy to combat youth crime in Heerlen-Noord.
Heerlen is taking an important step towards a sustainable future. The board of mayor and aldermen of the municipality of Heerlen has decided to establish the Circular Agenda 1.0 and associated Circular Roadmaps. With this, the municipality is fulfilling its ambition to be 100% circular by 2050 and to use 50% less primary raw materials by 2030.
Today, the Heerlen council has adopted its draft environmental vision: an overarching vision for a liveable, social and sustainable Heerlen living environment in 2050. The draft environmental vision was created based on participation from many hundreds of residents and partners in various forms, an administrative vision sketch from the council, a council session, and regional cooperation. The draft environmental vision will be available for inspection from January 2025.
The Dutch Mining Museum is organizing the open-air performance '50 years of mine closure: resilient forward' on the evening of Saturday, December 21, 2024. This theatrical event uniquely brings the time of the mines, the mine closure and the period afterward back to life. It is also the kick-off of the Heerlen Heritage Year 2025.
The municipality of Heerlen has once again received a substantial government contribution from the Volkshuisvestingsfonds. Now more than 11.3 million euros. With this, the municipality can renovate and make 320 additional homes more sustainable. We will also use this contribution to convert vacant buildings into additional homes.
The Roman grave that was found at the end of November 2024 during the archaeological research on the Raadhuisplein in Heerlen is of a Roman soldier named Flaccus. The find from the year 0 is the most unique evidence of Roman habitation at this location. Never before have we found a Roman grave from this period with a name.
