  • Underground secrets of the Town Hall Square

    The archaeological research on the Raadhuisplein is almost finished after five weeks. The research yielded a number of unique objects, structures and finds. Today a presumed second grave and a bronze oven were excavated.

  • Geleenhof residential location for starters and small households

    The municipality of Heerlen grants the environmental permit for the redevelopment of the historic Geleenhof on the Valkenburgerweg. The monumental farm from 1688 will be given a new purpose with 17 modern apartments. The homes are mainly for starters and one- or two-person households.

  • Paid parking on Sundays

    Paid parking in the centre of Heerlen will soon only apply from 12:00 on Sundays. It is currently 10:00. We are changing the time so that the hours are more in line with the opening hours of the shops in the city. This change will take effect from January 2025.

  • Heerlen makes building available for solar energy on roof

    The municipality of Heerlen has given the green light for a special sustainability initiative. They are making the roof of the municipal building at Limburgiastraat 34 available for a solar power plant with 180 solar panels from 2025. This project was set up by energy cooperative Heerlen Duurzaam. It gives residents the opportunity to invest in these solar panels and to benefit financially from locally generated energy.

    Between 2025 and 2027, 13 partners from the Euregio will work together to bring the Roman past to life. Via Via brings Roman history to life at 9 locations in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Visitors will discover Roman attractions along the route. The project aims to offer visitors a unique journey through history, across national and language borders.

  • Medlands Parkstad aims to attract talent and create 3,000 new jobs

    To attract, train and retain talent for the Medtech sector (medical technology) in Parkstad, companies from this sector are now working together with educational institutions and the municipalities of Heerlen and Kerkrade. This collaboration is called Medlands and aims to create 3,000 new jobs around 2030. The collaboration focuses on image, education, the labor market and infrastructure.

  • A safer and greener Ganzeweide

    Alderman Marco Peters officially opened the renewed 30-kilometer zone on the Ganzeweide. He did this together with Stan Peters, the chairman of the business association, and a number of residents, by laying the last paving stones.

  • Thank you for Friends of Heerlen Schoon

    Alderman Marco Peters (Management and Maintenance) has awarded the annual thank you for the Friends of Heerlen Schoon to a number of volunteers of this initiative. In Heerlerheide they go out a few times a month to clean up litter. All other volunteers in the city also received the present for their efforts in the past year.
