20 new homes on Emmastraat in Hoensbroek

The municipality of Heerlen has granted an environmental permit for the construction of 20 homes on Emmastraat in Hoensbroek. This concerns 12 single-family homes and 8 life-cycle-proof homes, all equipped with energy label A+++.

The homes will replace the 20 homes that were demolished earlier this year in Mariarade. 68 other homes in the district were renovated last year. The focus was on preserving and restoring the historical identity of this mining colony by architect Jan Stuyt.

Alderman Marco Peters of Spatial Planning: “Together with the renovation that took place in Mariarade, the new construction provides for the strengthening of the district. Precisely by building in a way that ties in with the historical identity, focusing on low energy consumption, and responding to the needs that exist. For example, 8 life-cycle-proof homes are being built. The demand for these is high.”

Wim Hazeu, director of Woonpunt: “With the construction of these 20 new homes, tenants will soon benefit from more living comfort and lower energy consumption. Because these homes are made in a factory, they are sustainable, affordable and can be built quickly. They also look beautiful, because special architectural features are also affordable with this way of building. Together with the 68 renovated homes, Mariarade as a whole is ready for the future.”
