55+ers free to museums in city
To mark the International Day of the Elderly, Heerlen residents aged 55 and older can visit three museums in the city for free. This can be done on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. People over 55 can enter for free if they show their ID. Castle Hoensbroek, the Mining Museum and SCHUNCK Glaspaleis participate. We hold this action for the 2nd time.
Alderman Marco Peters of Elderly Policy: "Elderly people should be able to enjoy all the beauty our city has to offer. There is so much to discover. Whether it is the most beautiful castle in the Netherlands, Kasteel Hoensbroek, our mining history in the Mining Museum or the exhibition of Andy Warhol in SCHUNCK. This also creates more involvement with our city. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet up with others and explore our museums together. Stimulating encounters, captivating and involving people are important themes within our policy for the elderly."
What are you taking?

Successful initiative
We held this action for the first time in 2023 and it was a success. A total of 357 people came to our museums last year. The International Day of the Elderly always falls on October 1. But because many 55+ people work, we hold this action on 2 days in the weekend after (October 5/6). The Thermen Museum is not participating this year. This museum is closed due to preparations for the construction of the Roman Museum.
