Erik Whien (director of Slachthuis Vijf, among others) brings with A Case for the Existence of God a moving plea for hope, even when all seems lost. In this new play by the American playwright Samuel D. Hunter we see an unlikely friendship develop between two fathers. Two men who at first glance have nothing in common, except that they are both magnificently taken advantage of by life. That setback is the basis for a connection in which something great, or divine, may be hidden.

Two single fathers (played by Emmanuel Ohene Boafo and Bram Suijker) fight for custody of their daughters. One struggles with financial problems, the other with complicated adoption procedures. After all the problems from the past, both are now also burdened by the constant fear of failing in their fatherhood. In A Case for the Existence of God, the men explore in an empathetic, meandering way how to maintain hope and connect when disappointment almost paralyzes them.
