Construction of Charles Hennen Park in Oakfield
Together with initiators and residents, Alderman Marco Peters (Management and Maintenance) planted the first tree for the Charles Hennen Park in Eikenderveld. The future park will be a place to meet and enjoy everything that will bloom.
About three years ago, a number of residents expressed a desire to make the Charles Hennen Park, which until now is still a lawn, the calling card for the Eikenderveld neighborhood. They want to transform it into the Charles Hennen Park.
Designs
The adjacent elementary school, GGD, Weller, Stadstuin Heerlen and neighborhood association TOE (Trots op Eikenderveld) were involved. Children from the elementary school made their own designs and residents actively sought funds for implementation. During the first residents' evening in Eikenderveld about the rigorous greening, the ideas were presented and the municipality decided to embrace the initiative.
Proud
Erik de Ruijter of Sustainable Eikenderveld expressed the happy feeling of the neighborhood residents. "Here we are working with 24 working groups to make the neighborhood more beautiful, greener and more pleasant. The namesake of the park, honorary citizen of the city due to his musical merits, would have watched with pride and pleasure as this park turns into a colorful meeting place for everyone in the neighborhood."
Joint approach
With the planting of trees, shrubs and blooming flowers, the parkland will transform into a beautiful park this spring.
Alderman Marco Peters:
"This is the second neighborhood we are tackling within the rigorous greening. And I find it really great to see how all stakeholders, from residents to housing association, find each other in a joint approach and make this residents' initiative possible. This will ensure that we will soon have a beautiful park added to our city."
