Alain Janssen

Alain Janssen Jongerenpartij ) has been a council member since March 30, 2022, and has served as Alderman the municipality of Heerlen since June 3, 2026.

My name is Alain Janssen. I grew up in Landgraaf, but I’ve been happily living in Heerlen for over 15 years. Together with my wife, our two sons, and our dog, I feel right at home here.

After a career as a commercial manager and member of the management team at several companies, I made a conscious decision to move into local government. For the past two and a half years, I have worked as a housing policy advisor for the municipality where I grew up. In collaboration with the Parkstad urban region and other partners, I have been able to make significant progress toward achieving Landgraaf’s and the region’s housing goals.

What drives me in my role as Alderman the desire to see Heerlen and its residents thrive and have the opportunity to move forward.

I think that’s especially important for young people. I see sports as a powerful tool in this regard: it brings people together, promotes health and enjoyment, and energizes neighborhoods and communities.
The same goes for a strong economy: it creates quality jobs, offers opportunities, and builds confidence. And it gives you a reason to build your future here in Heerlen.  

In my role as Alderman , I Alderman over the coming period to create a city where young people feel heard and seen, where sports and events foster community and pride, where neighborhoods like Hoensbroek make concrete progress, where we focus on a healthy economy, and where we build a sound financial foundation for the future. Because managing municipal resources wisely is essential to continuing to invest in what truly matters to the people of Heerlen.

I believe it’s important to be visible and approachable, and to listen closely to what’s on people’s minds in the city. Heerlen is a city with strength and character, where there is still so much potential if we work together.

As far as I’m concerned, Heerlen is “open for business” to anyone who wants to contribute!  

I am proud to be able to contribute to this, with a focus on people and on what truly matters in their daily lives.
