The Amaka Summer Festival is meant to let people hear how exciting and interesting classical music can be. Young classical musicians perform in small ensembles in various public places in the city center of Heerlen, with concerts of about 20 minutes. Exciting, fun, surprising, free and of a high quality level.
The Amaka Summer Festival opts for public spaces outside (almost all of them) with an alternative inside, if the weather is not good.

Who is Amaka?
At the beginning of our era Heerlen was a Roman fortress: Coriovallum. In Coriovallum worked a potter, Lucius (hence Luciushof!).
On one of his earthenware vases a text was found to his beloved. Her name was Amaka.
