Getting soil testing done

A soil survey is sometimes required if you have construction or renovation plans. A soil test is also increasingly being requested when buying or selling a home, business premises or a piece of land.

Note

Did you have a soil test performed in 2023? If so, different rules may apply to you.

Approach

Want to know if you have a valid soil survey? For more information, check out the soil plan or send an email to the soil counter.

Here's how to request a soil test:

  • Request a soil survey from an accredited consulting firm.
  • You will receive a report.
  • Go to the Environment Counter.
  • Do the permit check. You can then apply for the soil test right away.
  • Log in:
    • for yourself: with DigiD
    • For a company: with eRecognition
  • You will then see what information you need to provide. This depends on the environmental permit. It depends on whether it was issued only for the environment or also for construction.

Description

A soil survey reflects the quality of the soil at that time. Soil testing may be required in the following cases:

  • You are going to build or remodel.
  • You are buying or selling a home, commercial property or piece of land.
  • You stop a business for which you have an environmental permit.
  • The environmental plan is changing.

A soil survey is valid for 2 years. The quality of the soil can change. Because of activities that take place on the soil or because the national research standards become stricter. With a field inspection or a supplementary survey, you can indicate whether the results of the soil survey are still correct after those 2 years.

Do you want to know if there is a risk of finding explosives in the ground? We check whether there is an increased risk of finding explosives in the survey area. We use a preliminary investigation that we carry out by a so-called 'source investigation'. We record the results in a report and a risk map.

The information on the risk of the presence of explosives is important for:

  • (Municipal) projects that require us to dig into the ground
  • preparation of zoning plans

Terms

The condition for having a soil test performed is:

  • You own the land or you have permission from the owner of the land where you want to do soil testing. If the land belongs to the municipality, you will ask permission from the municipality.

Objection and appeal

You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. Do you then disagree with the decision on the objection? Then file an appeal with the court.
