Mayor Seals Off Three Homes in Heerlen Following Police Investigation Into Drug Trafficking
On August 5, the mayor of Heerlen ordered the closure of three homes in Heerlen for a period of twelve months. A police investigation revealed that the homes were involved in the trafficking of hard drugs. Weapons were also found in some of the homes. Due to the seriousness of the situation and the threat to public order and safety, the mayor decided to close the homes. All of the homes are located throughout Heerlen-Noord.
Mayor Wever emphasizes that Heerlen remains firmly committed to fighting crime and protecting its residents:
Everyone should feel safe on their own street and in their own neighborhood. Homes should never be places where hard drugs are sold or where weapons are kept. If residents’ safety is at risk, we take immediate action. With these closures, we are protecting the neighborhood and showing that we will not tolerate criminal activity that undermines our community.
In addition to these closures, the mayor closed another residence in Heerlerheide at the end of July. There, too, weapons and drugs were found following a police investigation. That residence has also been closed for a period of twelve months.
