Mayor closes illegal sex establishment on Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek
Mayor Wever last week closed a property on the Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek under the sanctions policy for (illegal) sex establishments, escort businesses and home prostitution. The illegal sex establishment was discovered by employees of the Intervention Team who stumbled upon it through an online sex ad. An administrative inspection of the residence revealed that the male main occupant was making his home available as a sex establishment and was not staying there himself.

Since the introduction of the current prostitution policy in October 2023, the municipality of Heerlen has closed a total of 5 illegal sex establishments. Heerlen, with the Intervention Team, regularly conducts administrative controls in this area to end the abuse of (social rental) housing or business premises, prevent abuses in the sex industry, and prevent disruptions to public order and safety problems.
Socially Secure
In Hoensbroek and especially the Kasteelbuurt/Hoofdstraat-West subarea within the Maria Gewanden-Terschuren neighborhood, the Socially Safe approach has been implemented since 2021. In this approach, the municipality, police, Buurtteams Heerlen, the Health and Safety House Parkstad and housing corporations work together intensively to improve the livability and safety in the neighborhood.
Mayor Wever:
"As you already know, we are proactively working in our neighborhoods and certainly in the Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek. Also this intervention shows once again that we are short on time and together with our partners follow through where necessary to improve safety and livability."
