Mayor closes illegal sex establishment on Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek

Last week, Mayor Wever closed a residence on Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek on the basis of the sanctions policy for (illegal) sex establishments, escort agencies, and home prostitution. The illegal sex establishment was discovered by members of the Intervention Team who came across it via an online sex advertisement. An administrative inspection of the property revealed that the male main occupant was making his home available as a sex establishment and was not staying there himself.

Since the introduction of the current prostitution policy in October 2023, the municipality of Heerlen has closed a total of five illegal sex establishments. Heerlen regularly carries out administrative checks in this area with the Intervention Team in order to put an end to the misuse of (social rental) housing or commercial premises, prevent abuses in the sex industry, and combat disturbances of public order and safety issues.

Socially Safe

In Hoensbroek, and particularly in the Kasteelbuurt/Hoofdstraat-West subarea within the Maria Gewanden-Terschuren neighborhood, the Social Safety approach has been implemented since 2021. In this approach, the municipality, police, Buurtteams , the Parkstad Health and Safety House, and housing associations work closely together to improve the quality of life and safety in the neighborhood.

Mayor Wever:
“As is now well known, we are proactively working in our neighborhoods, and certainly also in Hoofdstraat in Hoensbroek. This intervention once again demonstrates that we are responding quickly and, together with our partners, taking action where necessary to improve safety and quality of life.”
