Approach

This is how you apply for a permit or waiver to conduct an election campaign:

  • You contact the municipality.
  • In any case, you pass on:
    • For which elections you want to campaign
    • which party you want to campaign for
    • Where and how you want to campaign
    • When and what time you want to campaign

Description

You can campaign for your political party. That means advertising your political party. Then you must follow rules of the municipality, for example for:

  • posting of election posters
  • hanging banners
  • placing of stalls
  • driving around with a sound truck
  • seeking new members

Some campaign activities require a permit or exemption from the municipality. And some activities are allowed only in places determined by the municipality.

Requirements

Election campaigning Requirements include:

  • You do not campaign in or near the polling place on election day.

Term

The municipality will decide on your application within eight weeks. If this is not possible, the municipality may extend this period once.

Objections and appeals

Do you disagree with the municipality's decision? Then you can file an objection. By doing so, you let us know why you disagree with the decision. You must object within 6 weeks. The municipality will then make a new decision.

Do you disagree with the new decision? Then you can ask the court whether the municipality has made the right decision. This is called 'appealing'. You must do this within six weeks. You can only appeal if you have lodged an objection.
