On Sunday, May 18, the Waringin Foundation will organize the Day of Indian (and Moluccan) Heritage at Filmhuis de Spiegel (Royal Theater). This day is dedicated to preserving, publicizing and further shaping the cultural heritage of the former Dutch East Indies for current and future generations. Generations that in one way or another have a connection with the Indonesian heritage in Heerlen or elsewhere.
May 18 will be a day highlighting various facets of Indian culture, its cultural heritage and, of course, its history. Expect a day with lots of culture, music, dance and Indian food.
The program begins at 1 p.m. and ends around 6:30 p.m. During that time music will be played, a film/documentary will be shown, a "generation table" will be held and of course there will be an opportunity to enjoy a (Indian) snack with a drink together.
Indian and Moluccan people (preferably from the municipality of Heerlen) take their seats at the "generation table." By sharing personal stories about culture, upbringing and the past in the Dutch East Indies, the Waringin Foundation hopes to increase mutual understanding, and to learn from each other.
The information on this page will be updated and/or expanded as soon as possible.
