A nice and green place for The Oak
Alderman Marco Peters of Management and Maintenance and director of Weller Barry Braeken, together with a resident, gave the go-ahead for the construction of a garden at senior citizens' complex De Eik. The greening is part of the greening in Eikenderveld. A unique collaboration between municipality and housing corporation with the same goal for both organizations.
The initiative for the garden came about earlier this year after a visit by the Alderman and his senior assistant. On that occasion, residents asked if they could use the existing outdoor space to create a garden. An initiative that fits perfectly with the municipality's plans for greening Eikenderveld.
Collaborate
Marco Peters saw another opportunity, as there was also a request from Weller to work together to modify the area around De Eik. "Like Weller, we want to do the maximum to make the outdoor space more beautiful, greener, more livable and environmentally friendly. We can only succeed if we work together with residents and partners. I'm glad that this nice place in the green is now coming for the residents."
Textbook
Barry Braeken:
"How often do you see organizations having the same goals, but in practice working alongside each other. For me, this project is the textbook example of how one and one becomes three. Together we make it possible for people to enjoy the garden".
This spring already
Work is in full swing. This spring, residents will already be able to enjoy a nice, green place, which is becoming more and more beautiful, green, livable and environmentally friendly.
This initiative is an example for cooperation with other corporations. For example, there are already discussions with Woonpunt for the greening of an area in Mariarade-North. That neighborhood is next in line for greening after Eikenderveld.
