A safer and greener Ganzeweide

Alderman Marco Peters officially opened the renewed 30-kilometer zone on the Ganzeweide. He did this together with Stan Peters, the chairman of the business association, and a number of residents, by laying the last paving stones.

In the 30 km/h zone of the Ganzeweide, people were driving much too fast. Together with residents, users and the business association, the municipality went looking for the best solution. We already know from measurements that people are driving much less fast.

Stan Peters, chairman of the business association, is very happy with the improvements to the Ganzeweide. “It is now a road that puts safety first. The parking spaces are in good condition and the landscaped flower beds ensure that the Ganzeweide is a beautiful green color.”

Slower driving

The most important thing in the redevelopment was to make traffic drive slower. Now there are road narrowings, which force motorists to slow down when they enter the 30 km zone. The Ganzeweide used to be a priority road. In the new situation, traffic from the right has priority. Motorists must take this into account and reduce their speed.

Greener

For pedestrians there are clear, easily recognizable and safe crossings and cyclists can drive through everywhere. The parking spaces in the middle are more clearly arranged. Turning on the road is impossible and that also makes it safer. We also immediately used the moment to make the area considerably greener by planting extra trees, flowers and plants.

Safety is top priority

Alderman Marco Peters : “Improving road safety is a top priority. Where risks are high, we intervene and tackle dangerous traffic situations. And we do this together with residents, entrepreneurs and other road users. I am very pleased that the work on the Ganzeweide is now finished. It did not stop at a redesign that improves safety, because we have also tackled the greening of the area. In this way, we are working on liveable and strong neighbourhoods and districts”.
