A safer Groeët Genhei
Alderman Marco Peters of Mobility, together with children from elementary school De Ganzerik, inaugurated the new layout of Groeët Genhei on Monday, March 31. They did this by clearing away the last items and sweeping away the sand that was used in the redesign of the road.
Groeët Genhei is a busy street through the heart of Heerlerheide, on which elementary school de Ganzerik, care center Ter Eyck, the Plus supermarket and the Cornelius House, among others, are located a short distance from each other, and where children, residents and business owners have been complaining for some time about lack of visibility and unsafety due to speeding.
To reduce speed, two speed ramps have been constructed in the street, including an elevated crosswalk. To increase clarity, two loading and unloading bays have also been created for (small) truck traffic.
Alderman Marco Peters: "Strengthening our neighborhoods and districts is top priority. Especially in the center of Heerlerheide on such a street as Groeët Genhei with all its amenities, it has to be safe. Children and young people must be able to go to school safely and residents must be able to count on a safe living environment. That is what we are working on."
