Guarantee visitors from abroad

Sometimes visitors from abroad need proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation. You request this from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). The signing is done at the municipality.

With a guarantee you declare that you guarantee the costs of the stay. Even if the visitor incurs debts, we will recover them from you. The guarantee is issued by the IND for a maximum of three months.

Approach

This is how you arrange for a guarantor and private accommodation and legalize your signature:

  • You download the application form from the IND.
  • You fill out the form, but do not put your signature yet.
  • You go to the municipality.
  • You bring:
    • The completed form from the IND
    • your valid ID
  • You put your signature while an official is present.
  • You pay for legalizing your signature.

If you have a partner, he or she must also sign the guarantor at the municipality.

Description

If you are receiving visitors from abroad, your guest may need a guarantor or private accommodation. For example, to apply for a visa.

The guarantee means that you and the guest are jointly responsible for the costs. This way, your guest cannot get into trouble if he or she cannot pay the cost of a stay (anymore). For example, because your guest can no longer access their money. Is your foreign visitor staying in your home? With a private accommodation allowance, he can show at border control where he is staying in the Netherlands.

Does your guest need a visa? Then sign the guarantor at the municipality. This is how you get your signature legalized. That means you prove that your signature on the form is really yours.

Terms

In this situation, you must have your signature for the guarantor or lodging provision legalized at the municipality:

  • Your visit is coming to the Netherlands for a short stay (no longer than 3 months).
  • Your visit requires a visa.

Does your visitor have less than €55 per day to spend? Then someone must be a guarantor.

These are the conditions for being a guarantor:

  • You live in the Netherlands.
  • You have a citizen service number (BSN).
  • You earn at least the minimum wage.
  • If you have a partner, he or she also signs the guarantor agreement.

Does your visitor have €55 or more to spend per day? Then you only need to apply for private accommodation.

Does your visit not require a visa? Then you do not need to sign the form at the municipality.

Term

The signature of the guarantor is ready while you wait.
