Guaranteeing visits from abroad

Sometimes visitors from abroad need proof of financial support and/or private accommodation. You can apply for this at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). The document must be signed at the municipality.

With a guarantee, you declare that you will cover the costs of the stay. Even if the visitor incurs debts, we will recover these from you. The IND issues the guarantee for a maximum of three months.

Approach

How to arrange a guarantee and private accommodation and legalize your signature:

  • You can download the application form from the IND.
  • Fill out the form, but do not sign it yet.
  • You go to the municipality.
  • You will need to bring:
    • the completed IND form
    • your valid proof of identity
  • You sign in the presence of a civil servant.
  • You pay for the legalization of your signature.

If you have a partner, he or she must also sign the guarantee at the municipality.

Description

If you have visitors from abroad, your guest may need a guarantee or private accommodation. For example, to apply for a visa.

The guarantee means that you and your guest are jointly responsible for the costs. This prevents your guest from getting into trouble if he or she is unable to pay the costs of their stay, for example because they no longer have access to their money. Is your foreign visitor staying at your home? With private accommodation, they can show border control where they are staying in the Netherlands.

Does your guest require a visa? If so, you will need to sign the guarantee form at the municipal office. This will allow you to have your signature legalized, which means that you can prove that the signature on the form is genuinely yours.

Requirements

In this situation, you must have your signature for the guarantee or provision of accommodation legalized by the municipality:

  • Your visitor is coming to the Netherlands for a short stay (no longer than 3 months).
  • Your visitor requires a visa.

Does your visitor have less than €55 per day to spend? Then someone must act as guarantor.

These are the Requirements guarantee:

  • You live in the Netherlands.
  • You have a social security number (SSN).
  • You are entitled to at least the minimum wage.
  • If you have a partner, he or she must also sign the guarantee.

Does your visitor have €55 or more to spend per day? Then you only need to apply for private accommodation.

Does your visitor not require a visa? Then you do not need to sign the form at the municipality.

Term

The signing of the guarantee is ready while you wait.
