Noise pollution on public roads

Using sound equipment on the street is allowed only if it does not disturb local residents. You must prove this with a noise survey.

Approach

In the following way, you give the report to the municipality:

  • Go to the Environment Counter.
  • Log in: 
    • for yourself: with DigiD
    • For a company: with eRecognition
  • Among other things, you pass on:
    • noise survey report
    • information about your company

Requesting a waiver for noise pollution on public roads is free.

Description

If you want to use sound equipment on the street, it should not disturb nearby residents.

To prove that you will meet the standards, you must have a noise survey done. There are specialized companies that can do this for you. You must have a study done to determine how much of your noise is audible at the facades of surrounding buildings with a residential function. These include homes, nursing homes, houseboats, and so on.

You must provide the noise survey report to municipality through the Environment Counter. This must be done at least 4 weeks before you start using the noise equipment.

You can apply for an outdoor noise waiver for:

  • sound device
  • (recreational) appliance

The municipality may also designate locations where some noise is allowed. In doing so, however, established regulations must be met. These regulations have to do with:

  • the maximum noise level
  • location of noise sources
  • frequency and times of its use

Term

You must submit the noise survey report at least 4 weeks before you start using the noise equipment.
