Noise pollution on public roads

Using sound equipment on the street is only permitted if it does not disturb local residents. You must prove this with a noise survey.

Approach

You can submit the report to the municipality in the following way:

  • Go to the Environment Desk.
  • You log in.
  • You provide, among other things:
    • noise study report
    • information about your company

Description

Would you like to use outdoor sound equipment for your business? For example, to play music on your terrace? If so, this must not cause any nuisance to local residents.

You must prove that you are not making too much noise. You can demonstrate this with a noise survey. There are companies that can carry out this survey for you. The survey must measure how much of your noise can be heard on the facades of buildings in the neighborhood. This concerns buildings where people live, such as houses, nursing homes, houseboats, etc.

You must submit the noise assessment report to the municipality via the Omgevingsloket (Environment Desk). This must be done at least 4 weeks before you start using the noise-generating equipment.

You can apply for an exemption for noise pollution in the open air for:

  • sound device
  • (recreational) equipment

Term

You must submit the noise assessment report at least 4 weeks before you start using the noise equipment.

Requirements

The municipality may designate locations where some noise pollution is permitted. However, you must comply with established regulations. These relate to:

  • the maximum noise level
  • location of the sound sources
  • frequency and times of use
