The day began at PLUS Winnubst in Bekkerveld. Alderman Tom Dragstra Owner Bram Winnubst was presented with a special Fairtrade plaque. This was a token of appreciation for his commitment to Fairtrade since 2012.

After that, the group went to PLUS Van Roosenboom on Gebrookerplein in Hoensbroek. After a cup of coffee, owner Danny Roosenboom was also presented with a Fairtrade plaque by Alderman Dragstra. He, too, has been committed to Fairtrade for many years.

Why were they given a plate?

Bram Winnubst and Danny Roosenboom helped with a campaign in 2018 and 2019. Thanks to this campaign, Heerlen was awarded the title of Fairtrade Town in 2019. The city used the signs to thank them for their help.

Visit to City Hall

After visiting the supermarkets, the group went to City Hall. There, they were joined by Fely Seijben and Harrie Winteraeken (chair of HeerlenMondiaal). Mayor Roel Wever welcomed them.

The mayor spoke about how important the commitment of residents and organizations is. They help build a fair and sustainable society. Fairtrade also plays an important role in this. The municipality of Heerlen also follows the principles of Socially Responsible Contracting and Procurement (MVOI).

The municipality of Heerlen also received a Fairtrade sign. Mayor Wever accepted the sign on behalf of the municipality.
