Heerlen participates in the NK Tile Twisting

The municipality of Heerlen is participating in the Dutch Tile Swapping Championship. Residents are encouraged to rapidly replace tiles with grass, flower beds, trees and façade gardens. And to give you a hand, you can order a "tile cab" from the municipality that will take away the stones. Are you participating?

The NK Tegelwippen fits into the city's ambition to green up. It therefore fits well with the neighborhood greening plans for Eikenderveld, Lindeveld and Mariarade, for which 4.1 million euros will be invested this year. The municipality that tips the most tiles per inhabitant wins the "Golden Scoop. The municipality with the most wiped tiles the 'Golden Tile'.

Cooler on hot days

Of course, the championship is not just about rivalry, but has a higher, common goal. Alderman Marco Peters of Management and Maintenance: "When we replace tiles with greenery, our city becomes cooler on hot days. But it is also nicer for insects and animals and of course much more beautiful. We want to go from grey to green! Everyone will be happier and healthier as a result.
