Heerlen steps up detection of waste dumpers

The municipality of Heerlen is expanding its approach to waste dumping. Two additional employees from the Enforcement team are being deployed, on top of the existing staff. The additional deployment is intended to tackle the persistent problem of illegal waste in the city. The measure is initially for two years.

Alderman Marco Peters (Management and Maintenance) explains:

"Waste dumping is unacceptable, especially in the face of everyone who does follow the rules properly. But it also detracts from our goal of making neighborhoods and districts stronger and more livable. We want every neighborhood to be a nice neighborhood. That is why we are firmly committed to enforcement and tracking down and fining those who dump trash. This is how we will continue to address this problem."

Reduce nuisances

Garbage dumps are among the biggest annoyances of residents in our city. They not only create a messy streetscape, but also attract pests and lead to dangerous situations. With this targeted and reinforced approach, the municipality wants to reduce the nuisance.
