Heerlen launches Housing Fund
The municipality of Heerlen, together with the Alliance of the National Program Heerlen-Noord, is starting a Housing Fund. This fund helps with the construction and renovation of homes. These are projects that are important for the city but difficult to pay for. With the Housing Fund, Heerlen wants to provide more suitable homes, a better balance between the types of homes in a neighborhood, and better homes for the future. This will result in stronger neighborhoods.
The Housing Fund is part of the Nieuw Heerlens Woonfundament (New Heerlen Housing Foundation). It supports housing projects that fit three objectives: investing, nurturing, and regulating. With subsidies and guarantees, plans that were previously unsuccessful can now get off the ground. The fund should be ready for use around the summer of 2026. Two years later, the municipality will review its performance. Heerlen is also investigating whether the fund can grow in the future. We are doing this together with other partners to ensure a strong and healthy housing market.
