Heerlen on the Map: Michelin star for Dutch Mining Museum and Castle Hoensbroek

The Dutch Mining Museum and Kasteel Hoensbroek in Heerlen have been awarded
a Michelin star in the 'Travel & Cultures' category in the international Michelin Green Guide. This prestigious listing means that both heritage sites are considered sights of international tourist interest. It is a recognition that matches Heerlen's ambitions as a city of heritage, culture and hospitality.

The Michelin Green Guide assigns stars to particular tourist destinations that are worth visiting.

Alderman Culture & Heritage Jordy Clemens is pleased with this honorable mention:
"The fact that two heritage gems from Heerlen in particular receive a Michelin star says everything about the strength of our culture. This is a proud moment for Heerlen and an encouragement to keep investing in our story, our heritage and our future."

The recognition comes at an extra special time during the Year of Heerlen Heritage. This year we celebrate and honor Heerlen's heritage with stories, memories, activities and projects.

Dutch Mining Museum and Hoensbroek Castle

The Dutch Mining Museum has undergone an impressive transformation in recent years. Today it is a central place where we tell the Limburg mining past to a wide and diverse audience. Kasteel Hoensbroek - one of the largest castles in the Netherlands - knows how to connect visitors with the past through a unique blend of history, experience and stories. Hoensbroek Castle has been named the most beautiful castle in the Netherlands by the ANWB in 2022.

With this recognition Michelin underlines that Heerlen is a city where we not only preserve culture and heritage, but also actively share and experience it. The municipality, together with its cultural partners, remains committed to a sustainable and hospitable city where there is room for remembrance, encounter and renewal.
