The music is dramatic and deeply moving, almost operatic, with beautiful, broadly set elegant melodies.

Paul
The Hamburg-born pianist, conductor and composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 – 1847) was one of the most important German composers of the Romantic period. He wrote many religious works. The oratorio Paulus opus 36 premiered in Düsseldorf in 1836 and made Mendelssohn one of the most celebrated composers in Europe. The Heerlen Oratorio Society performs the oratorio conducted by Emmanuël Pleijers and accompanied by the Conservatoire orchestra.
