Redevelopment of Tarcisius site with second care community center

The municipality of Heerlen and Wonen Limburg are joining forces to renovate the old Tarcisius primary school on Enniusstraat. MeanderGroep Zuid-Limburg is responsible for the Health. They have signed a letter of intent.

What will replace the old school?

The old elementary school has been vacant for a long time. There will be:

  • Patio homes where you can live your whole life
  • A care community center

This helps alleviate the housing shortage in Heerlen.

We involve residents in the plans from the outset. The municipality of Heerlen and Wonen Limburg believe it is important to communicate effectively with local residents.

Ger Peeters, chairman of the board of Wonen Limburg:
“With this letter of intent, we are laying a solid foundation for a development that will truly add value to the neighborhood. Together with residents, we are working to create a place where people feel at home and that fits in with the character of the neighborhood.”

Arlette Vrusch: Alderman Health, Municipality of Heerlen:
“It is extremely important to organize Health to home and to grow old in your own familiar surroundings in a small-scale residential and care facility. That is exactly what the care community center is for. For, by, and with the neighborhood.”

Michael Ehlen, director of MeanderGroep: “For us, organizingHealth is about creating a strong connection between housing, well-being, and Health the neighborhood. This care center is a place that contributes to connectedness, interaction, and quality of life for the entire neighborhood."

What happens now?

Wonen Limburg and the municipality of Heerlen are further developing the plans. We will keep local residents and other stakeholders well informed. After this phase, we will decide how to proceed with the plans.
