Redevelopment Sint-Janscollege Hoensbroek: new future for largest school Parkstad-Noord

Tomorrow, the renovated Sint-Janscollege in Hoensbroek will open. A multi-year project in which Stichting LVO and the Municipality of Heerlen have partnered and joined forces to realize a renewed school for Hoensbroek. The redevelopment and renovation of the school was an important priority within the Integral Housing Plan. Tomorrow, St. John's College is proud to literally open the doors to show the public their renovated school building and outside grounds.

Despite the challenges and difficult decisions that sometimes had to be made, steps forward were continually taken. Quality always came first. Even when construction costs rose due to the building crisis and unexpected problems such as water damage emerged. The result is impressive: the Sint-Janscollege is currently the most modern and sustainable school in Heerlen.

'This collaboration between the municipality of Heerlen and Stichting LVO was a great example of how good partnership can work,' says Frans Erfkemper, rector of Sint-Janscollege. 'I am extremely happy with the approach, the cooperation and the stunning final result of our (re)construction.'

Throughout the project, several opportunities have been taken to ensure that both the school, and the grounds around it, meet all the needs and requirements. For example, the school grounds have been greened, the artwork depicting St. John by Piet Killaars has been carefully removed and is being restored and placed in front of the school building. A canopy for students on the outside grounds has also been built.

Alderman for Education Jordy Clemens emphasizes that investing in Heerlen's neighborhoods is incredibly important: 'We have already implemented several educational projects in Hoensbroek, think of BMV Aldenhof and BMV De Auvermour. The new building offers plenty of space to enjoy good education in an attractive environment.'

The opening will take place on June 7 starting at 2 p.m. Neighbors are invited to an open house between 4:30 - 5:30 pm. A reunion for both former colleagues and former students will take place on Saturday.
