A courageous search for security and finding a place of one's own
Het Sterrehuis is an equally moving and light performance about four children who look back on their youth in an orphanage. A topical story, radically told from the child's perspective. Het Sterrehuis, inspired by the real Heerlen Sterrehuis, was the festival hit of Cultura Nova 2022 and will now premiere in a theater version on February 1 and 2, 2025 in Heerlen.
Meet four Sterrehuis children
Mea wants nothing more than to go to a foster family, Frenkie is looking for his family, Peet misses his mother and Summer never wants to go back home. In a dreamy no-man's land, a story of great loneliness and cautious friendship blossoms in which fantasy is repeatedly interrupted by harsh reality. A story about the courageous search for security and finding a place of one's own.
The Heerlen Star House
Laagland house writer Annet Bremen was inspired for this performance by the Heerlen Sterrehuis, exemplary of many children's homes from the 1970s. This award-winning theatre text, based on Bremen's research and interviews with former Sterrehuis children and employees, is more relevant than ever. Based on this text - awarded the international youth theatre writing prize Kaas & Kappes in 2023 and nominated for the Toneelschrijfprijs - directing talent Silke van Kamp created a compelling performance with a fantastic cast. The performance is made for adults but also suitable for children aged 10 and up.
