Huisberger street turns into residential street
The work on Huisberger Street is finished. The street has been changed from a through road to a residential street. The speed limit has been lowered from 50 to 30 kilometers per hour, platforms have been constructed and the street has been greened. This has not only made the street safer, but also more livable and a nicer place to live. The adjustments were taken at the initiative of the residents.
Huisbergerstraat has long been used as a thoroughfare between Heerlerheide and Beersdalweg, and from there with the rest of the city. This as an alternative to the much wider Euregioweg that is just down the road. Because of the high speed, road safety was compromised. Also important here is that many children who go daily to the nearby Frans Postma Elementary School use this route.
Alderman Marco Peters: "We are working hard to strengthen our neighborhoods and districts. Huisbergerstraat is one of the first streets where we have therefore deliberately reduced the speed. Residents are already noticing that there is less regular and freight traffic and that the speed has also gone down significantly. This approach ensures that Huisberger Street is a nicer place to live."
