Registering for social housing

Are you looking for social housing? If so, register with the organization that distributes social housing.

Many social sector providers offer their housing through Thuis in Limburg. 

Together with the municipality, all housing corporations in Heerlen have established an urgency scheme to help people in social emergencies quickly find housing. You apply for an urgency declaration yourself to get priority in finding housing.

Enrollment sometimes involves additional costs.

Applying for urgency costs you nothing. We know that there are organizations that offer to help you apply for urgency. They charge a lot of money for this. Our advice: don't take advantage of that. 

Description

Social housing is for people with incomes up to a certain limit. If you earn more, you usually do not qualify. Only a small portion of social housing is rented to people with higher incomes.

There is often a waiting period. It often varies by neighborhood. Are you looking for a house urgently? If so, you may be able to apply for a declaration of urgency.

Terms

Eligibility requirements for social housing are:

  • You are 18 years of age or older.
  • You are a Dutch citizen or have a valid residence status.
  • You are economically or socially tied to the region.
  • Most social housing is subject to an income limit:
    • Do you live alone? Then your income may be a maximum of €47,699.
    • Do more people live in your home? Then your income may be €52,671.

You are registered with an organization that distributes social housing in this municipality .
