Miss Milivolt

Angela de Weijer, also known as Miss Milivolt, is a multidisciplinary artist, composer and DJ from Eindhoven. She worked as city composer of Meierijstad (2020 - 2022) and plays synthesizer in the experimental ambient-drone collective Drone Assembly.

Listening and thinking differently about the world as we know it is central to De Weijer's work. The starting point for these artistic research projects is often a question or observation, but it can also begin with a thought experiment or word joke. Angela investigates large subjects and has already composed for air alarms and monumental Brabant church organs. She also has an ear for the small: conceptual sound or sound left behind in time. Angela de Weijer: "Heerlen is an exciting working area for a city composer and I am honored to take on this role. I am super excited to start integrating and making music with and for the city!"

What will Angela mean for Heerlen?

Angela has a lot of common ground with the subcultures that Heerlen has and the musical genres that live in Heerlen. Think of HipHop and Punk. Angela is a high-level composer. That makes her a great composer for Heerlen. Not only will the city composer be seen in the city center, she will also go into the neighborhoods and be in contact with the club life of Heerlen. In addition, she will set up a public workplace at 48 Pancratiusstraat. Angela will start as city composer as of September 4. Alderman of Culture Jordy Clemens is curious about the result: "I am looking forward to seeing how the city composer is going to discover Heerlen in a new way and let us hear it. Precisely because she has a lot of common ground with subcultures that Heerlen knows, I am confident that this will be an added value for our cultural city. "

Intro in Heerlen

Intro in Situ's goal is to make new music and sound art accessible to a wide audience and to showcase its diversity. For years Intro in Situ has had a connection with Heerlen: In 2021 Intro in Situ temporarily resided in Heerlen, in a pop-up location in the Morenhoek, and last edition of Cultura Nova Intro in Situ programmed contemporary music with three sold-out performances of Onderbaden and nine performances of Opus for a Bicycle. Heerlen is a city that does not shy away from experimentation and is committed to young talent. For this reason, Intro suits Heerlen and vice versa.

On June 15 at 2 p.m., Angela will be introduced (Pancratiusstraat 48). Angela's first performance will take place during Cultura Nova, on Sept. 4.
