Jordy Clemens
Jordy Clemens (SP) has been Alderman of the Municipality of Heerlen since 2014.
"As a history teacher, I loved bringing old stories to life. With the same conviction I am doing that now with the unique story of Heerlen, also in my third term as Alderman. For me, Heerlen is the city where what is possible in other places is not possible. But unfortunately also the city where nothing comes for many people. Here we have to fight for a better future ourselves. For me, the municipality must therefore be an ally of its inhabitants. Sometimes by offering help where needed, but also by leading the way and showing what is possible here.
Both must and will be demonstrated by the new college in the coming years. Once again, we choose a strong social course, we will fight against (child) poverty and we stand for neighborhood facilities such as schools and public transport, but also for the supermarket. We will make life difficult for slum landlords, nuisance-creators and garbage dumpers. What I am most looking forward to is working together with all the hardworking people in education, Health and other places in our neighborhoods.
In our city center we are going the extra mile. We are going for significantly more greenery, water, (street) art and cosiness. Moreover, I challenge residents, entrepreneurs and other initiators to think along about how we can make Heerlen even more of a lively and playful place, where it is nice for everyone to stay.
Together we make our city more beautiful, more fun and - as far as I am concerned - a little more exciting. Proud of Heerlen!"
