Jordy Clemens
Jordy Clemens (SP) has been since 2014 Alderman of the municipality of Heerlen.
"As a history teacher I loved bringing old stories to life. With the same conviction I now do that with the unique story of Heerlen, also in my third period as a Alderman . For me, Heerlen is the city where what is not possible in other places is possible. But unfortunately also the city where nothing comes easy for many people. Here we have to fight for a better future ourselves. For me, the municipality must therefore be an ally of its residents. Sometimes by offering help where it is needed, but also by leading the way and showing what is possible here.
The new board must and wants to show both in the coming years. Once again we choose a solid social course, we are going to fight (child) poverty and we stand for neighborhood facilities such as schools and public transport, but also for the supermarket. We are going to make life difficult for slum landlords, troublemakers and waste dumpers. What I am looking forward to most is the cooperation with all the hard-working people in education, the Health and other places in our neighborhoods.
In our city center we are going the extra mile. We are going for considerably more greenery, water, (street) art and cosiness. Moreover, I challenge residents, entrepreneurs and other initiators to think along about how we can make Heerlen even more of a lively and playful place, where it is nice for everyone to stay.
Together we make our city more beautiful, more fun and - as far as I am concerned - a little more exciting. Proud of Heerlen!"
