Queen Máxima visits Heerlen
On Wednesday afternoon, April 9, Queen Máxima will visit the Heerlerbaan district of Heerlen. Her host will be Mayor Roel Wever. The visit highlights how Heerlerbaan as a community deals with challenges and opportunities and how residents work together to create a livable and safe neighborhood. The thread running through the program is the development of the neighborhood. From the (mining) past, to the present. Entrepreneurship, meeting and social cohesion are now the focus and provide the future in which young people and associations continue to shape the neighborhood.
Mayor Roel Wever on the visit:
"As a municipality, we are enormously honored to receive Queen Máxima after King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Dick Schoof. This shows that interest in our city and region is growing."
Queen Máxima will start her visit to Heerlerbaan with entrepreneurs, with whom she will talk about entrepreneurship and its challenges. She then makes a tour of the Peter Schunck neighborhood point, a meeting place for residents where various activities take place. The next stop is Care Center Oranjehof. There, Queen Maxima meets residents and staff and talks about their lives. Afterwards, she and another group of nursing home residents will talk about their memories of the past, with a special focus on mining and war history.
Queen Máxima then visited the BMV Heerlerbaan where neighborhood residents can participate in a variety of activities in the areas of education, health and culture. She spoke with children and teenagers about growing up in Heerlerbaan. She also speaks with both young and experienced mothers who are committed to a promising future for children. The Queen's visit ends in Caumerbron Community House. Here, together with the mayor of Heerlen and volunteers, she will discuss Residence and life in Heerlen and traditions in Heerlerbaan.
