Royal honors for Sylvia Schonewille and Willy Adema
On Wednesday afternoon, December 17, 2025, Sylvia Schonewille-Vondenhoff and Willy Adema received a royal honor. Both women have been volunteers at the Toon Hermans House in Heerlen for 20 years. They were appointed Members of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Sylvia Schonewille and Willy Adema welcome guests to the Toon Hermans House and offer them a listening ear. Ms. Schonewille also takes care of all kinds of household chores, such as shopping, cleaning, and laundry. In turn, Ms. Adema, together with her colleagues, organizes various activities at the Toon Hermans House.
Sylvia Schonewille
Ms. Schonewille had always been a volunteer in various fields. She was involved with the Maja Yama judo club for no less than 38 years, as an assistant trainer. She also devoted many years to the Gerardus Majella primary school, including as chair of the parent council. As co-founder and board member of Speeltuin 't Heksenpretje, she contributed to the well-being of children in the neighborhood for more than 10 years.
Willy Adema
Between 2020 and 2024, Ms. Adema also volunteered at the Tobias care center in Heerlen. Here, she provided guidance in wheelchair dancing. She also did laundry for several residents, went for walks with residents, and helped with activities.
