The municipality may ask for a co-payment if your child attends a school for regular primary education. The co-payment does not apply to disabled children.

Description

Pupil transport is for children who cannot go to school by themselves. For example, due to a disability or because the school is far away. The municipality then arranges pupil transport. Pupil transport can be arranged in various ways:

  • You will be reimbursed by the municipality for dropping off and picking up your child yourself.
  • You will receive reimbursement from the municipality for a bicycle, public transportation or adapted transportation.
  • The municipality provides transportation by bus or cab.
  • a one-time grant from bicycle incentive scheme of €500

The bicycle incentive scheme

Cycling as student transportation is something we particularly encourage:

  • As a good and healthy alternative to car or public transportation
  • but certainly also to improve your child's independence.

Are you entitled to an allowance from the Pupil Transport Scheme? And would you like to teach your child to cycle to school or have them cycle on their own? Then you may benefit from the bicycle transport incentive scheme.
The reimbursement you currently have for pupil transport will stop.
In addition to the one-time subsidy of €500, you will still receive a mileage allowance for the bicycle distance to school and back home.

Requirements

Whether you can apply for pupil transportation depends on, among other things:

  • the distance between your home and the school
  • the travel time
  • what your child can do on his or her own
  • the age
  • the commitment of both parents

Term

The municipality will decide on your application within 8 weeks. Is that not possible? Then the municipality may extend this period 1 time.

The 8 weeks will start when you have submitted all the information requested by the municipality.

Is the student in the last school year and you want to apply for bicycle subsidy? If so, you must apply by Oct. 1 of that school year.
