Lecture: Carnival through the ages
LectureDate:
Location: Savelberg Monastery (Gasthuisstraat 2, Heerlen)

In December 2025, at the end of the Year of Heerlen Heritage, the Schelmentoren will open to the public. In the meantime, this medieval tower will be redesigned and the municipality will organize various activities that tell the history of the Schelmentoren and medieval Heerlen. One of the activities is a series of lectures.
On Sunday 26 October, Kitty Jansen-Rompen will give a lecture on carnival through the ages. Carnival is a folk festival that took shape in the Middle Ages; a form that is surprisingly similar to the carnival celebration today. The lecture will take place in the chapel of the Savelbergklooster (Gasthuisstraat 2, Heerlen) and is free of charge. Walk-in: 13:30. Start lecture: 14:00.
More information will follow soon.
