Lecture: Carnival through the ages
LectureDate:
Location: Chapel of the Savelberg Monastery (Gasthuisstraat 2, Heerlen).

In December of 2025, at the end of the Year of Heerlen Heritage, the Schelment Tower will open to the public. In the meantime, we are redecorating this medieval tower. And the municipality organizes several activities that tell the history of the Schelmentoren and medieval Heerlen. One of the activities is a lecture series.
On Sunday, Oct. 26, Kitty Jansen-Rompen will give a lecture on carnival through the ages. Carnival is a popular celebration that took shape in the Middle Ages; a form that is surprisingly similar to the carnival celebrations of today. The lecture will take place in the chapel of the Savelberg Monastery (Gasthuisstraat 2, Heerlen) and is free of charge. Walk-in starting at 1:30 p.m. The lecture starts at 2 p.m.
