Martin de Beer
Martin de Beer (VVD/D66) has been Alderman of the Municipality of Heerlen since 2014.
"My name is Martin de Beer and I live with great pleasure in Hoensbroek. I was born and raised in Heerlerheide. I have been an Alderman since 2014 and before that I worked in higher education. I was also previously a council member and provincial council member for the VVD. Incidentally, I am Alderman on behalf of two parties: VVD and D66.
In recent years, I have focused on the economy, labor market and sports. The commitment was to give as many people as possible a chance in the labor market. That remains my greatest challenge even now. So that people can develop their talents and be as self-reliant as possible. To this end, among other things, we have started the Above Ground Vocational School. We are also steadily building new jobs, for example in our business parks. We will do this as sustainably as possible, focused on the future. New forms of energy are important here. But also health.
As Alderman Sport, I want to enable as many people as possible, above all children, to participate in sports and exercise. For this we need strong associations and attractive sports facilities. I think Heerlen is getting better and better. But there is still a lot to do. Being allowed to contribute to that is a great honor for me and enormously challenging. I like to do that together with people: out of love for our city!"
