Martin de Beer quits as Alderman through Lower House membership
Martin de Beer has announced his retirement as Alderman at the municipality of Heerlen. He was appointed to the House of Representatives for the VVD on June 25, 2025. From 2006 Martin de Beer was active as a council committee member and later as a city council member and provincial council member. And since 2014 as Alderman in Heerlen for both VVD and D66. Economy, labor market and sports were recurring themes in his portfolio.
Martin de Beer was particularly committed to giving as many people as possible a chance in the labor market. He was the initiator of the Upper Vocational School and co-initiator of Medlands, the partnership between companies in Medical Technology, education and government. Since the last municipal elections, Martin de Beer was also responsible for finance, sustainability and the coordination of Heerlen-Noord.
Martin de Beer looks back fondly on 11 years as alderman in Heerlen.
"As Alderman , I worked to connect economic development to the social task of our city. I am especially proud of the Upper Vocational School. It is so important that people can develop their talents and be as self-reliant as possible. That's really close to my heart. And that is also what I am going to work for in the Lower House".
Furthermore, in recent years we have been able to accelerate and deepen cooperation in the region. This gave us more connection with the rijksoverheid. That formed a good basis for the National Program Heerlen-North. I will take that experience with me to The Hague, where, as a Heerlen native, I will represent our city and region with pride."
VVD and D66 are nominating a successor for the vacant aldermanic post this week.
