Medieval afternoon in Heerlen-Centrum

Event

Date:

Time:   -

Location: Pancratius Square-North

Everyone, of course, knows the Roman history of Heerlen, and that of the mines. But at the Pancratius Square there are still parts of the old medieval fortified town of Herle: the Pancratius Church and not to forget, the Schelmentoren. The latter monumental building was part of the walled Landsfort, but the north tower of the church was also part of the fortress.

To pay attention to Heerlen's medieval past, we are organizing a craft fair with various artisans*, a puppeteer, a storyteller, a medieval music group and a surgeon who will interpret your health. All things that used to come together during annual fairs. The public can also dress up in authentic medieval attire and be photographed in this way.

To draw extra attention to the Schement Tower, which takes its name from its prison cells, a trial will take place at 2 p.m. In addition, guides from the Pancratius Church will be on hand to talk about the history of this building.

*Trades include a shoemaker, a tailor, a potter, a blacksmith a tinsmith and a basket weaver.
