Grid reinforcement Palemig to start

Alderman Marco Peters, Pascal Weijers of Enexis and Frank Congiu of contractor APK symbolically performed the start of the strengthening of the power grid in Palemig. Together they dug the first trench for the new cables. Palemig will be Heerlen's first neighborhood ready for the future.

Because of the energy transition, we are using less and less gas and more and more electricity. Residents with solar panels, on the other hand, are feeding back a lot of power. As a result, the power grid is becoming increasingly full and can become overloaded. Waiting times for new connections are increasing. And sometimes even the power in a neighborhood can fail. To prevent this, we are expanding the power grid. Network operator Enexis is going to lay new, thicker cables and install extra electricity houses.

Now and in the future

Alderman Marco Peters thinks grid reinforcement is important.
"We work for strong and livable neighborhoods and districts. Besides safe, clean and green, we provide by strengthening the electricity grid. This will make our neighborhoods ready for the future in terms of energy supply. We are taking the first step of a very important development for our city today!"

Start made

"In Heerlen, Palemig is the first neighborhood where we will get to work," said Pascal Weijers of Enexis. "Aarveld and Schaesbergerveld immediately follow. Retrofitting all the neighborhoods in the city will take at least another 10 years. We still have a long way to go. But we're glad we've made a start now."

Nuisance

Frank Congiu of APK:
"A renovation involves inconvenience. Streets or sidewalks open up. Unfortunately, that can't be helped. But we are doing everything we can to keep the inconvenience to a minimum. We are going to inform people well in time".
