New grants make it easier to make your home more sustainable
The Municipality of Heerlen helps residents to better insulate their homes. Together we ensure warmer homes in the winter and lower energy costs. With two new subsidies we make sustainability accessible to everyone. Also for people with a lower income. This is the next step in Heerlen's sustainability offensive.
Who is the grant for?
The first grant is for people who:
- own their own property,
- Have a home with energy label D, E, F or G,
- Have a property with a WOZ value lower than € 219,000.
If you meet these requirements, you can receive reimbursement of up to €4,000 for insulation of the roof, floor, walls or glass. The costs are fully reimbursed, so you pay nothing. You will also receive free help and advice from an expert.
Additional subsidy is available for residents who previously received energy allowance and meet the above Requirements. Then you can get up to a maximum of €10,000 subsidy to insulate parts of your house.
For special situations, customization is also possible.
Alderman Casper Gelderblom (Housing and Environment): "In Heerlen we want to turn energy poverty into energy justice. That is why we are making insulation really accessible for people who need it most. We remove financial and practical barriers. People get help, guidance and the costs are fully reimbursed. In this way we ensure that no one is left behind."
Neighborhood-oriented approach in Vrieheide
In addition to the subsidy for all of Heerlen, there will be help by neighborhood. The first neighborhood is Vrieheide. There, together with residents and housing corporations (Weller and Wonen Limburg), we will insulate houses. The first three blocks have already been tackled and now have energy label B. On May 24 we will celebrate the completion of these houses.
The amount of this subsidy depends on the home, income and what measures are needed. An energy advisor will visit first to see what is possible.

Starting at the end of May, you can register via this website. Keep an eye on the sustainability and energy page for this. We also visit the neighborhoods. In August we start in Molenberg with a door-to-door action. Energy coaches will hand out free smart energy meters and tell you about the subsidy. Do you qualify? Then we will make an appointment to help you further.
