New homes in former office building at Putgraaf 210
By approving a project assignment, the Municipal Executive has expressed its intention to build new homes at Putgraaf 210. The plan involves 66 homes, namely 60 apartments and 6 loft homes in the mid-range and higher segments. This will enable us to tackle the vacancy rate and improve the quality of life in the area.

The former office building (originally the employment office) has been vacant for a long time. Demolition and new construction will create space for a future-proof residential complex within walking distance of the city center and close to the Aambos. We are removing vacant offices from the market, improving quality of life, and building homes for the target groups we want to attract.
Currently an intention, plans are still being developed
With the project assignment finalized, the initiator can further develop the ideas and conduct research. The impression drawing is a first sketch. The design and the new development are a nod to brutalism, the architectural style in which the former employment office was built. In the coming months, we will clarify the plan and also hold discussions with local residents. If everything goes according to plan, we will be able to start construction in the first quarter of 2026.
Alderman Marco Peters delighted with the initiative to repurpose the former office building: "I am incredibly happy that we can finally breathe new life into this beautiful location. Where there is now an empty building, there will soon be a pleasant residential neighborhood where people really want to live. This development fits in perfectly with our ambition to add new homes while simultaneously enhancing the quality of our living environment."
Heerlen accelerates housing construction
Heerlen faces an important challenge: the housing supply is out of balance. We have plenty of affordable housing, but too little choice in the mid-range and higher segments. The families and professionals we want to retain or attract are leaving. The municipality is therefore accelerating its efforts to build new homes and create a balanced housing supply. With new homes in different segments, we are rapidly building a healthy mix of households, strong neighborhoods, and a vibrant city.
