A new youth information point before the summer

The municipality of Heerlen is preparing the opening of a new youth information point (JIP) in Heerlen-Centrum, for young people between 16 and 27 years old. This will be a place where young people can drop in without an appointment to ask questions about all kinds of topics in their lives, such as work, study or housing. The center will be located in the building Promenade 55, on the corner of the Honigmannstraat, also known as the SUNA-Pand.

Young people have all sorts of questions about school, study, work, money, free time, friends and relationships, a room or home, health or well-being. Which organisations or agencies can they turn to and how do they approach this? The new youth information point should help young people get started quickly.

Alderman Arlette Vrusch (Youth):
“Our city lacks an accessible information point where young people can easily walk in. Online information is often fragmented, while a good conversation with professionals offers more information to make choices for the future. Then it is about young people being able to ask follow-up questions and getting a push in the right direction.”

Involve young people's input and ideas

The youth information point, or JIP for short, is a provisional name. The municipality of Heerlen has involved young people to talk and think about various matters, such as a catchy name and the opening of the new location. A group of young people is also involved in renovating and furnishing the building on the Promenade. The municipality wants it to become a place that appeals to young people.
