Official signing of Heerlen Elderly Agreement 2025-2030
On Tuesday, July 1, the Heerlen City Hall officially signed the Heerlen Elderly Agreement 2025-2030. In attendance were many of the parties who participated in the discussions and deliberations on the content of this new policy for the elderly.
This took place during 23 meetings in the city, where, in addition to hundreds of seniors, representatives of senior associations, housing corporations, educational institutions, general practitioners and physiotherapists were also present. A lot of valuable information was gathered during these meetings, which also led to many new initiatives, such as the start-up of the Seniorentelefoon, a way for all seniors to stay informed, the Heerlen Seniors Academy, through which seniors can pass on their knowledge and experience to young and old, and an intensification of the realization of housing for seniors.
Maximum joint result through close contacts
Each of the parties involved contributes to the objectives of the new policy for the elderly through their activities. The strength of the Agreement is that in addition to its powerful content, it is precisely by maintaining close contact with all parties involved that we can achieve the maximum possible joint result and keep each other focused on new developments and implementation. The plan is to regularly take stock together.
Strength of the network
Alderman Marco Peters of Elderly Policy: "By using the power of our network, our cooperation and our joint efforts, we can do much more for the many seniors in our city. In addition to successful initiatives such as the free library subscription for over-65s, the annual museum day, and all the exercise opportunities through Senior Actief, we are taking an important step towards a future in which every senior in Heerlen who wants to feel supported, heard and appreciated with the Heerlen Elderly Agreement. We are determined to realize this policy with enthusiasm and dedication. A city in which seniors remain vital and connected, where people count, participate and can maintain control of their own lives. Our seniors deserve it!"
Barry Braeken, director of Housing Corporation Weller: "In the coming years, we will focus on building more senior housing. Not only apartments, but also affordable life-proof patio homes with gardens and other types of housing. Close to facilities, so that people can continue to live in their familiar surroundings, in the place where they feel at home."
Pauline van Mierlo of Buurtteams Heerlen: "There are many starting points for us in this Seniors' Agreement. With this we can work together with all partners for the seniors in the city. And in doing so, we are making a difference for all Heerlen seniors."
