Pancratius apartment transformed into green and social meeting place
Together with the tenants association of the Pancratiusflat and Woonzorg Nederland, the municipality of Heerlen contributed to greening the passageway at Op de Nobel. A collaboration between the housing corporation and residents also created a meeting space. Both the indoor and outdoor areas were festively opened by Alderman Marco Peters.
Last year, the tenants association of the Pancratiusflat, together with Woonzorg Nederland, submitted a request to the municipality of Heerlen to help think about greening the outdoor space at Op de Nobel. The municipality provided a number of trees and planters, which the residents will set up as a picking garden with flowers and herbs.
With the opening of the meeting space "De Gezelligheid," a long-standing wish of the residents and Woonzorg Nederland came true.
Neighborhood consultant Marlies:
"The space should grow into a place where meeting, looking out for each other and support are central. With amenities such as a mobility scooter area, a green roof and a modern kitchen for communal activities, the Pancratius apartment has been transformed into a lively and future-proof place for seniors."
Alderman Marco Peters (Management and Maintenance, Elderly Policy) is enthusiastic:
"Residents of the Pancratius flat are enormously involved and that is really contagious. Thanks to their efforts together with the corporation there is now a new beating heart in their complex. The meeting space and a picking garden both contribute to more social connection and more opportunity to meet each other. I am enormously proud of what they are putting together here!"
