Personal budget

With a personal budget (pgb), you arrange the care or support you need yourself. For more information, contact the municipality or the Social Insurance Bank (SVB).

Do you have a guidance request? Discuss this with an employee of the municipality.
Perhaps the general provision of Buurtteams Heerlen is a good solution for you. If so, you do not need a PGB.

Approach

This is how you apply for a personal budget (pgb):

  • Go to the website of the Social Insurance Bank. Here you can see what the application for each type of pgb looks like.

Cost

You must pay a co-payment in most cases.

The CAK determines the amount of your co-payment.

Description

The personal budget (pgb) is an amount you can spend yourself on care or support. For example, you choose who you hire to help with housekeeping. This can be a professional, but also a neighbor or a family member. A pgb can also be used to buy a stair elevator or mobility scooter other than the one provided by the municipality. Or you can use a pgb to purchase youth assistance.

There are 4 types of pgb, for care and support from:

  • youth aid
  • Social Support Act (Wmo).
  • Long-term Care Act (Wlz).
  • Health Insurance Act (Zvw).

You will not receive the contribution in your bank account. So you do not pay the caregivers yourself. You instruct the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) to pay your care providers. You must keep your own records of the care you have purchased. The SVB pays care providers on the basis of an invoice, timesheet or monthly payment.

You can also use the personal budget (pgb) to purchase care in other EU countries.

Terms

Conditions for applying for a personal budget (pgb) include:

  • You are registered with a Dutch municipality.
  • You are pgb-capable. This means, for example, that you know what care you need. And how to make proper arrangements with a care provider. You can also keep records.

In doing so, you may ask for help from someone close to you or a formal representative. You can read more about it on the site of the Rijksoverheid .

Note: When granting a personal budget, the municipality will ask for a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) from the caregiver.
