Phishing Email Circulating: 'Municipal Energy Survey' - Warning
A phishing email with the subject line “Municipal Energy Survey” is circulating. This email appears to come from our municipality, but it was not sent by us. The email entices recipients to participate in the survey by offering gift cards. A concerned resident reported this to the municipality of Heerlen, but warnings have also been issued in other municipalities.
What's the best thing to do?
Do not click on the link; delete the email and block the sender.
Did you click on the link in the email?
In that case, close the page immediately and do not enter any information.
Did you happen to enter personal information, login credentials, and/or bank information? If so, please take the following steps:
- Change your passwords (for the relevant accounts) immediately
- Turn on two-step verification.
- Run a virus scan.
- Please contact your bank if you have shared your banking information.
